So I’m back in Dubai after about two weeks of roaming around Thailand and getting some deserved R & R. So I’ve decided to share the photos and stories I have in a series of posts and we’re starting with our last destination which was Pattaya.
9 – 12 Phuket
12 – 16 Krabi
16 – 20 Koh Samui
20 – 23 Bangkok
23 – 24 Pattaya
I’ve prepared myself for the trip by reading National Geographic Traveler’s Thailand book and although it already told me what to expect I still hoped it changed drastically in little time but unfortunately it didn’t. Blimey, I think the book’s description was nicer than reality.
The Good
- Cheap massages!!! There are shops offering 100 baht for foot massage and the same for thai massage. I tried the foot massage and it was awesome!
- Cheap Thai food and beers! Among the places in Thailand we’ve visited, Pattaya’s food prices is cheaper by almost half than the others. There are a lot of non-Thai restaurants as well and the price is ok.
Kana Moo Grob , Chinese Broccoli with Crispy Belly Pork
Chillies!!!
Yes, those green dyed ones are apples.
White Chocolate Cheesecake from Starbucks and my favorite Green Tea Soy Milk Frappe, which I hope they will bring to the UAE!!! It reminds me of home.
Cheap beer prices!
- It is amusing, there are malls and a lot of shops.
- Walking Street – while I’m not really a fan of the entertainment you’ll most likely find here, this place offers a lot of things for all kinds of people. There are pubs, shops for just dining and well of course you have places where you can watch something …
- Transportation, Fares is cheap as well.
- Hard Rock Hotel is pretty.
Hard Rock Pattaya has three shops by the way, the hotel, rock and mixed shop.
The Not-So-Good
- The beach is horrible. There are a lot of beach chairs in such a small space. The water is not clear. Although this is based on my personal preference. See, I prefer swimming in pools rather than in the sea unless the water is clear.
She doesn’t care though.
- There are a lot of people, like A LOT.
- Walking Street – aside from the fact that I don’t like the entertainment you can find here, there are a number of performers which are children, and you may argue that the kids wanted to perform, do tricks and dance, but I still cannot watch a kid dance or perform in front of me in such a place.
We stayed overnight at Sutus Court, don’t get fooled by the pictures on their website. The place is ok I guess. This is the view from our room, that pool is for another hotel though.
